Hull’s Opening Game

Opening weekend saw the Hull Scorpions host The Holton Trojans in the first double header of the 2022 season.

Unfortunately, Hull came away with two losses but the team played with determination and passion, showing great sportsmanship throughout.

Opening day was started off by our sponsor, Tony Bowler of The Hull Business Culture, throwing down the first pitch of the 2022 season.

Game 1: 11 – 8

Team 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Halton Trojans 2 0 0 2 2 2 0 3 0 11 16 3
Hull Scorpions 2 0 1 0 1 4 0 0 x 8 11 8

Game one kicked off the season in spectacular fashion. A blown save, extra innings and what could of been a winning run for The Scorpions if not for a run-down tag out at home plate in the 6th. Scorpions played hard, scoring 2 runs in the 1st, 1 in the 3rd and 5th, and an impressive 4 runs in the 6th.  It just wasn’t enough to keep the Trojans at bay, as entering into extra innings they claimed back 3 runs taking the end score to 11 runs to 8

Game 2: 14 – 9

Team 1 2 3 4 5 6 R H E
Halton Trojans 6 2 2 0 4 0 14 15 0
Hull Scorpions 1 1 1 1 5 x 9 5 4

Game two was another exciting game for both teams…
The Trojans came out strong with a 6 run 1st inning and 2 runs in the 2nd and 3rd, but you can never write off The Scorpions as we scored a run in every inning. The 5th inning the saw the Trojans scoring 4 more runs giving them a 10 run lead, only for The Scorpions to show our never say die attitude we are well known for, and push the Trojans all the way to the end scoring 5 runs, only for another tag out at Homeplate that ended what was a remarkable comeback. The game ended 14 runs to 9, but even with a loss Scorpions displayed some fantastic base running and kept the Trojans on their toes with some quick in field plays.

All in all it was a cracking opening day in Hull with the sun out and 2 great games of baseball.  The club would like to thank it’s sponsors, Freshstart UK and The Hull Business Culture for their sponsorship of the 2022 season.
