Hull Scorpions Baseball Club are pleased to announce that the new baseball facility, currently under development at Alderman Kneeshaw Park, Barham Road, East Hull will be known as Purex Field.

This announcement comes following an agreement with Doncaster based company, Purex International Ltd.

The company are World Experts in the Fume Extraction Solutions industry and have an additional office in the Chicago area. they are looking to build a different sort of relationship with the Hull Scorpions that will be attractive to their clients.

Purex International General Manager Andy Easey said “We were impressed by the ambitious and exciting plans that Hull Scorpions have for their baseball facility and wanted to be a part of it. We are hoping to help the Scorpions form links between themselves and teams in Illinois, USA. Baseball is a truly international sport played by over a 100 countries worldwide and this venture will give us an interesting talking point with current and potential new clients as we look to expand our business”.

“This generous investment by Purex will enable us to build a baseball field that will be one of the top facilities in the UK and will provide a focal point for the community baseball work that the Scorpions are currently conducting in local schools throughout East Yorkshire” said Scorpions Chairman Kevin Macadam.

The community programme ran by the Scorpions sees them providing taster sessions in local schools targeting children of all ages as well as running inter school competitions.  “Where most sports seem to have a set limit for the number of children they have per team, we operate on the basis that if we have too many children then we form another team and run a league within the club. We are trying to get children playing for fun whilst also giving them an opportunity to play competitively should they wish to” said Macadam.

The club recently received planning approval to build the field following support from the Friends of Alderman Kneeshaw Group and with this new investment we can substantially begin developing the ground.

The initial stage of the build will see an enclosed baseball field with base areas and pitching mound with the addition of batting cages and seating in the near future.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Hull City Council for enabling us to return to the spiritual home of baseball in Hull where back in the 1960’s and 1970’s Alderman Kneeshaw Park was home to the Hull Aces, one of the top teams in the country. In particular we would like to express our thanks to Councillor John Hewitt who has been instrumental in helping us.

Macadam added “We have been particularly encouraged by the number of people who have told us that they used to come and watch the baseball games in their childhood and hope that we can help encourage families to come out and watch a game and try their hand at a new sport.”

This is a very exciting time for the Scorpions and with several home fixtures still to go before the season play-off games we welcome anyone along to the Purex Field to come and support the club.
